On 22 October 2026, The Continuum Initiative visited Baan Kru Mui (บ้านคุณครูมุ้ย) in Phra Pradaeng, Samut Prakan. Also known as Baan Dek Re Ron (บ้านเด็กเร่ร่อน), the home offers shelter and care to children who lack stable support. It is led by Ajarn Jaranai Iang-im (อาจารย์จารนัย เอียงอิ่ม), known to everyone as Kru Mui.

Almost two decades of care

Baan Kru Mui has worked continuously for 19 years and is now entering its twentieth. Around 40 children currently live in its care, from toddlers of two or three to teenagers of 15. Many come from families facing serious hardship, including abandonment, poverty and substance use at home, which has left them without stability or reliable access to education and basic care.

Kru Mui takes responsibility for the children’s housing, food, clothing, health care and daily expenses. Education is central to the home’s work: children are supported to attend school and learn at a level suited to their age, building the knowledge and skills they will need in the years ahead.

A meal together

We spent the visit with the children at mealtime, sitting together on the floor around the grill. The Continuum Initiative provided some simple food support as a modest contribution to the home’s everyday needs.

Support that needs to continue

Over almost twenty years, the home has been helped by individual donors and by private organisations through corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, with donations of funds, food, household items and educational support. Caring for so many children of different ages still depends on steady resources, particularly for food, school fees, learning materials, medical care and basic living costs.

Baan Kru Mui is more than a shelter. It is a home that offers care, warmth, safety and the chance of a new beginning, so that every child can grow up well, receive an education and build a better future. We thank Kru Mui for welcoming us and sharing the home’s work.
